rybinski_picture.jpgMy professional life

I am 43. I graduated from Warsaw University Mathematics and Computer Science Department (M.A.) in 1991, from Warsaw University Economics Department (M.A.) in 1993, and I got my Ph.D. in economics in 1996 from Warsaw University. My doctoral thesis on modification of Perron test to be able to apply it to transition economies was published in Economics of Planning.  In February 2009 I received habilitation in economics, based on my book [in Polish]: Three aspects of globalization: offshoring, global imbalances, monetary policy”. In April 2009 I received the title of professor awarded by the Senate of the Warsaw School of Economics.

I spent full year in 1990 working in Tokyo as software engineer, first as programmer then as a head of a team working on advanced computer graphics modeling. Then I spent few years wearing several hats at the same time, as a World Bank consultant, as director of several economics programs in Central and Eastern Europe funded by Soros Foundation, Ford Foundation, Mellon Foundation and Pew Charitable Trust. I taught mathematics and economics at Warsaw University. In 1997 I left academia and moved to business, joining ING Barings as its chief economist in Poland. Until March 2004 I worked as chief economist and managing director in three major Polish banks. On 25 March 2004 I was appointed deputy governor of the National Bank of Poland by the President of Poland on the request of NBP governor Leszek Balcerowicz. Between March 2004 and January 2008 I supervised 8 different NBP departments: two research departments, statistics, foreign exchange reserves, cash, payment systems, financial risk management and foreign affairs. On 14 February 2007 I was delegated by NBP governor Slawomir Skrzypek to the Financial Supervision Authority (FSA) as the NBP representative.

On 2 January 2008 I submitted my resignation from the position of deputy governor. In April 2008 I joined Ernst and Young Poland as Partner (advisor from January 2010 to March 2010) and I became assistant professor at the Warsaw School of Economics (professor since April 2009). Until March 2009 I served as member of supervisory boards of Alior Bank, (deputy chairman) MCI Management, and New World Alternative Investments (chairman). In July 2009 I joined the Council of the Polish Citizens’ Forum (see www.pfo.net.pl). Presently I run my own advisory business and work on several very innovative projects in the private sector.

My private life

I have a wife (economist, working for the government) and two kids, son and daughter 12 and 8 years old respectively. I believe that my kids should learn Math, English, Chinese and Internet, which should make them flexible enough to succeed on the global labor market of the XXI century. I spent many years practicing karate-do, I no longer have time to continue these trainings, but I value very much lessons I learned, lessons that shaped my character. My son also goes to karate classes. I believe in openness, trust, honesty and hard work. I hope I can teach this to my kids. My favorite movie is Bruce Lee “Enter the Dragon”, I watched it many times, and I still do. When I was younger I listened to techno, now, to my surprise I enjoy Chopin and Mozart.
